2016 Audi S7 Sneak Peek

The new 2016 Audi S7 was first unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November of 2014. It offers a number of styling enhancements and increased power compared to the previous year’s model.

Audi offers the S7 as a model that maintains the refinement of the A7 while incorporating some of the raw power and exacting performance of the RS7. Unlike the more raucous RS7, the S7 is less likely to wake the neighbors when it is fired up in the morning.

Enhanced Powertrain
Nonetheless, the engine in the 2016 Audi S7 is even more powerful than the one in the previous year’s version. The large 4.0L twin-turbo power plant is now capable of 450 horsepower, an increase of 30 horsepower over that offered in the 2015 version. Torque remains at a substantial 406 lb.-ft.

Power is conveyed to all four wheels via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission with manual-shifting capability. The turbocharged eight-cylinder engine can readily power this premium sports performance sedan up to its regulated 155-mph top speed; cornering mimics that found in smaller sports performance sedans. The sports differential has been engineered to minimize understeer in this substantial 4,500-lb sedan. Motorists can select from a number of different driving modes, and the adaptive air suspension delivers the desired experience.

Impressive Acceleration
Although test data for the 2016 was not initially available, Car and Driver timed the 2015 S7 at a quick 4.3 seconds in the zero-to-60 scamper. With the addition of another 30 horsepower, the new 2016 version may possibly improve upon that number. The magazine also projects a possible 4.1-second time in the zero-60 mph test. It further estimates a potential time of 12.4 seconds in the standing quarter-mile.

Fuel Efficiency
Fuel economy may not be an ultimate concern for certain buyers, but the EPA ratings for the 2015 model were 17 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Similar fuel-efficiency numbers are anticipated for 2016.

Styling Upgrades
The styling of the S7 gets even more dramatic and aggressive for 2016. The LED headlamps are newly configured, and they help to set off a re-designed, more elegant grille and more aggressive fascia. Any motorist pulling up behind the new S7 will witness the S7′s unique quadruple, trapezoidal exhaust pipes and sequential directional signals. With the new design elements, it is fair to say that the sleek S7 makes more of a statement than ever before.

Well-appointed Cabin
Buyers have the option of adding fully ventilated front-row seating that includes five different levels of massage. A new Arras red trim is added for 2016, along with its distinctive cross-stitch pattern. Unlike the five-passenger A7, the Audi S7 remains strictly a four-passenger vehicle, thanks to the inclusion of two individual rear seats.

The S7 includes Audi’s upgraded MMI voice-activated navigation system with a retractable 8-inch touchscreen monitor. The infotainment system includes a 4G LTE connection that creates a Wi-Fi hotspot capable of serving up to eight different devices. When it is appropriate, the Audi S7 is a capable workstation on wheels.

An optional 1300-watt, 15-speaker Bang and Olufsen surround-sound premium audio system is available. Even the standard 630-watt, 14-speaker Bose system demonstrates prodigious capabilities that should satisfy demanding audiophiles.

The hatchback design brings a touch of practicality to this premium luxury sedan. It also adds storage flexibility. Trunk space is rated at an impressive 24.5 cu-ft., and the rear seats can fold down to increase this Audi’s overall potential cargo space.

Drivers and passengers alike enjoy the benefits of an array of safety systems, including standard lane departure warning, blind-spot warning and front/rear parking sensors. Audi’s standard Pre-Sense Basic system automatically warns the motorist, closes the windows and adds tension to the seat belts if the potential for a collision is detected. The standard Pre-Sense Rear system activates brake lights to warn following drivers of a potential collision.

The 2016 Audi S7 is powered by a 450 horsepower V8 engine that supplies 406 lb.-ft. of torque. The elegantly-appointed cabin features premium materials. Overall, this streamlined, truly world-class sedan offers motorists high levels of luxury, performance and sophisticated technology.
